Rate RUSD Cafeterias
If you want to know how the Racine Health Department rates local restaurants for cleanliness etc..., go to http://www.cityofracine.org/Depts/health/restaurant_scoring.aspx. Not on their list are RUSD cafeterias. Given that tainted food may have caused an outbreak of food poisoning at some RUSD schools, perhaps parents would be interested in learning how their childs school rates in the cleanliness department. Maybe one of our local alderman could propose an ordinance to address this problem.

Each school should be free to contract with whatever inspection service they wish. Customers can decide what inspection services they trust, and then send their children to those schools using the trusted inspection services. The same should hold for restaurants. The city health dept could then cut their staff. I should have the choice of going to restaurants that are:
1. Not inspected
2. Inspected by private agency XYZ
3. Inspected by agency ABC.
The market will say how valuable inspection is, and which agencies or food chains are more valuable.
Interesting idea anon. Competition among regulators makes sense to me. Having a government monopoly on health ratings is asking for trouble.
They wouldn't be regulators. They would be for-profit companies, somewhat like UL or AAA. They could also do meat & dairy inspection at grocery stores. Gas pumps too. There is little need for state certifications, inspections, and licensing.
