Michael Gibson Does Something

The near completion of an unsustainable, wasteful, feel-good environmental project atop a dilapidated school building prompted local student Michael Gibson to announce that "It just shows something can be done with this location in the inner city. It shows something can be done with this group of students."

Aw, yes. “Something.” How wonderfully and appropriately vague.

Will it stop global warming? The result will be so negligible that it won’t matter at all.

Will it absorb resources that could be more efficiently used? Undoubtedly yes, hundreds of thousands of dollars could be actually making a difference.

Will it give them a warm, self-righteous glow? Yes. And that’s the only thing that matters it seems…

I believe I was misquoted in that. I said something like that but the wording was not as bad as what was in the paper. I was also caught very off guard when I was interviewed. I walked around the corner of a hall way and a teacher and reporter were standing there. I didn't know that I was going to be interviewed.

No worries MG, I am just yanking your chain a bit here. But as you certainly know, I do think the project was all about doing something symbolic rather than doing something useful. I hope that the opposing points of view expressed here at Free Racine at least made you think.

I rather have Mr. Gibson do something he feels is moving forward then selling crack.
Perhaps now that Mr. Gibson knows the power of a group working together the next project he does could be a "better" one.
Myself I like the idea of what the kids did.

Well you are setting the bar pretty low there Colt. Yes, wasting time and money installing solar panels is better than selling crack. On the other hand, if Walden students could sell crack to their dealers for twice the market price, they could use the profits to blanket our city with solar panels. Get on that MG!

Whatever Michael Gibson does or does not do in Racine is insignificant to the global economic pyramid scheme which neocon capitalistic economics has used to bring the entire world to the brink of oblivion.

...and yet the evil/arrogant people who have done this take none of the responsibility and own up to the modern day evil that they have perpetrated.

You folks are darkness incarnate.

Neocon capitalistic economics? How does that differ from regular Capitalism?

Anon, you reminded me of 2 lines in Atlas Shrugged:

Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter. So long as men live together on earth and need means to deal with one another – their only substitute, if they abandon money, is the muzzle of a gun.

I laud Mr Gibson for doing something. In the future I would urge him to do something useful.

Ayn Rand, the godess of the current global looting by capitalist thugs.

Neocon...a form of religious zealotry in economics which believes in pseudo-science in defending it's ideological beliefs.

Anon, your response is classic projection. Would you mind if I use you as an example if I write a book on the subject?
