I am aware of some white community leaders that won't say it publicly, but they are concerned that a crowded field in the mayoral race, including several well known white candidates, could split the white vote and throw the race to a black candidate.

Geez. Denis, what are you saying here? That Racine may end up with Bob Turner as Mayor? Because he's Black? Are you forgetting he also has the unions behind him as well as a war chest from being a State Rep.?
I think that all three of those things are equally important. Not to mention a lot of white people like him.
Methinks that someone is already looking for excuses for their loss...
Kay, it is not what I am saying here. I am just the messenger. And the concerns expressed were not specific to Turner. The concern was, as already stated, that a split white vote might throw the mayoral race to a black candidate. Of course you can read into this whatever you like. Thanks for your comments
Kay,
What is the war chest for Rep. Turner you speak of? According to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, Turner had approximately $7,000 in his account as of January 2008 and he only took in about $500 in contributions in all of 2008. I'm sure he has turned up the fundraising since declaring his candidacy for Mayor...but he certainly didn't enter the race with a "war chest" as you claim.
Hey, how is this post any different than what you gave Kay a ration of crap for here?
YOU'RE not saying it, right? You're just the messenger...
Mixter
Does it sound like I am in agreement with said white community leaders Mixter? In this case, I am most definitely trying to come accross as merely a reporter of the news. I did not want to tip my hand in any way just yet. Instead, I wanted to hear from readers before weighing in.
...that a split white vote might throw the mayoral race to a black candidate...
How 'bout a split black vote might throw ...
So who's the Asian candidate? Hispanic? Native American? Pacific Islander? Greek? Armenian? Etc?
What's a non-black minority to do in this election?
Ignore race as an attribute would be the answer.
Right you are Bruce Lee!
Kay.. jeesh you fell for this?
Kay, sucker.
But I repeat myself.
