The Journal Times reports that the 94 employees of the Belle Urban System may go on strike. I think this will cause a huge problem for the dozen or so passengers who use the system.
I see the city is considering raising the fare by .25 to .50 cents. I think that is just a start. lets 12 riders at $.50 is $6.00. that would reduce the burden on the taxpayers by enough to buy a value meal at McD's. (I always enjoy the way Dem's justify everything by how much McD's stuff you can buy). Well u can buy a whole money loosing BUS system for the price of 12 McD Franchises, and you'll never get ahead!! So let's allow the drivers to walk and hire some of the cities 8.5% unemployed to fill the jobs for minimum wage! Raise the fares and cut all benefits. Then we can start looking at the next overpaid City Govt. agency....
Let them go on strike for a long time. Save the city taxpayers some money on wages, fuel, upkeep on the buses. The strike would lower the traffic on our streets especially in construction zones. Oh and we don't have pollution that these buses produce. Wouldn't it be something if the city eliminated this waste all together? I know I'm dreaming.
I love Racine Wisconsin. But I am not naive about the challenges we face. I have chosen the name Free Racine for a reason. For Racine to realize its great potential, we must free ourselves from our own failed policies, from high taxes, failing schools, and self serving politicians.
