JT Endorses Consideration of School Vouchers

The Racine Journal Times (http://www.journaltimes.com/articles/2008/11/16/opinion/doc491f47151d55e097979090.txt) has endorsed the idea of considering school vouchers.

Wow! I never thought I would see the day. Now they haven't actually endorsed vouchers and there is no way that the Democrats in charge will actually implement the idea, but still, the JT took a step in the right direction.

The next step obviously is for the JT to render an opinion on the subject.

I was thrilled and floored that now that they can safely endorse something with chance of passing they have taken the correct position!! But I have seen a few editorials I agree with, maybe the lefties have all left the building finally!!!
I might have to revive my subscription...Markets have a tendency to work!!

The lefties are against this in part because they don't want all the righties to run off to their favorite religious schools and leave them all alone!

Who's kidding whom?

They may have written the editorial to appease the right knowing full and well that a Democratic majority in the assembly and senate along with the Governor will never let this legislation get out of committee.

They are all too beholden to WEAC!

anon you make a good point. This is why we should press the JT to actually practice what they are preaching. They should take a good hard look at vouchers and then offer an opinion. Don't hold your breath.

School vouchers are a no-brainer, it's our money and we should spend it how we like. The free market competition will make both public and private schools improve in quality. This can only happen if the system is monetized. If a student uses a voucher, the additional funding for the private school should complement a subsequent cut in funding for the public school. This will cause failing schools to shrink and successful schools to grow. If the system is not monetized, the government will simply hand out vouchers and then expand the deficit, resulting in no improvements at all.

btw nice blog denis found it completely on accident
